for the time being most interested in this bugger LG 47" 1080 they have a cheaper one the same size and brand but with shitter features, no 100z and low contrast ratios, so i think id rather spend a bit more and get a better one,

need to see if my local RS actually has one i suppose, and still have a poke around for something better, REALLY looking forward to FF13 in 1080 on a huge screen
that's a rip off for the price....

http://www.richersounds.com/product/...ony-kdl40w5500

100hz, contrast ration is very high and it's a sony, but 40 inch, 2 inch less don't much difference.
and is full 1080p

only £50 more.

that's rather big, so unless your playing games on it as well with static images?

it's better to go for plasma for pure tv/dvd and blu-ray watching.

HOWEVER...... this plasma screen seems to be fine for anything, unlike the cheaper models.

http://www.richersounds.com/product/.../pana-txp50s10

the contrast ratio on that is amazingly high(2,000,000:1).
has 100hz with 400Hz Sub field drive

and automatic contrast dimmer to stop static damaging the screen.

so basically that would be your best bet.

aye, its pretty much 100% for Playstation and PC use, actual TV shows can go suck ass, like id spend this much money on THEM :P

This is why i hadn't been considering Plasma for this, as i've always been warned off them for gaming/static images

for pc use, I can't see how you could use bigger than an 19 inch without sitting too close and doing your eyes in. or far away and giving yourself eye strain.

I've been using my 32" JVC 720 as my pc monitor for 2 years and its fucking great! i sit about 2-3m away from it depending on what i'm doing and never had any issues with detail

by 'pc use' i'm meaning a whole bunch of shit, downloaded tv/film/cartoon stuffs, gaming, and a big fuck off screen is really handy for the music sequencing stuff i use where i need to have many many windows on screen and easy to see, i really want it for the PS3 though, as more and more of its games are starting to take advantage of it, especially FinalFantasy 13

well maybe my eyesight is fucked up as I can't read small print unless I sit 30cm-50cm near to a monitor.

I use my 37" Panasonic Viera as a PC monitor at 1280x768 and sitting around 1.5m away. It totally kicks ass. Tried going back to my old 19" monitor and it looked so tiny.

Although it is quite pricey I'd recommend a TV with 'motionflow' capabilities. The name of the technology varies from company to company, it's 'motionflow' for Sony anyway. Basically there is a computer in the TV that takes two frames on the screen and mathematically maps out what the inbetween one might look like, resulting in an increased framerate and gorgeous smooth look!
It ruins movies, making them look like documentaries, but games like Fallout and Final Fantasy will become crystal clear and crazy smooth!

I think in the Panasonic Viera range it's called "Intelligent Frame Creation." Not quite as pithy, but amounts to the same thing. And I agree it's worth seeking out. Any television that's 100Hz+ capable should have something like that, I think.

I found a place doing a Sony Bravia LCD 37 inch with 100hz for £500.

but you say 100hz ruins movies....?, well I thought it's supposed to get rid of blurring in say fast action films (car chases and martial arts films).

as I'll be using it for both movies and PS3/WII games.

but also I'm a little concerned about backlight bleed, as some of the Sony LCD have problems with backlight bleed.

and it seems that the Panasonic LCD tvs have less issues with backlight bleed.

I need a sensible answer a.s.a.p from u or anyone alse, as I'm going out to richer sounds today to choose one.

With the Panasonic Viera you can disable Intelligent Frame Creation (i.e. fake 100Hz display of lower rate movies) if you so desire.

If it matters, the Viera is also rated highest in all categories (higher even than televisions more than twice the price) in Which? magazine.

Don't see how 100Hz can necessarily ruin anything. My Panasonic Plasma apparently does 600Hz, looks fucking awesome for movies.

the problem is the 37 inch Sony I can't try out, as it's from mail order only, but can be taken back.
so can try it out and see how very good or excellent it is.

shame richer sounds don't have the Sony tv I want to get, so I can't do a comparison between the two.

that is the one in richer sounds:

http://www.richersounds.com/product/...pana-txl37s10#

has no 100hz though, although it says 24p on movies.

and also no Intelligent Frame Creation either.

so I guess the Sony I'm getting is much better...

although the Panasonic has a wide 178° viewing angle.

however Panasonic (In VIERA LCD TVs, every frame is shown 4 times, which increases the 24p signal to 96Hz.)

24p Playback
24p Smooth Film
Picture Mode Dynamic/Normal/Cinema/Game

so I think I'll order the sony tv and whilst I got it, I'll have 30 days to return it.
I'll go check out the panasonic.

and if the panasonic beats it, I'll return the sony. otherwise I'll keep the sony.

the sony is this one: http://www.sony.co.uk/product/t32-w-series/kdl-37w5710
